Geoffrey started his artistic career at 9 years old. At this time creativity was required to escape sleigh boredom with school and maths in particulary. Practice came with pencil sketch on every school books and Marvel comics influence. At this time Geoffrey won a local school art contest. At 13 years old, he released his first ever comic printed on photocopied paper. The whole neighbourhood was in effervescence and some teachers were generous enough to purchase a copy. Later Geoff collaborated with his good friend Greg to produce a full-black and white science fiction comic named Future Cop. Unfortunately for our two artists the project was binned by mistake and forever lost.
At 15 years old Geoffrey was ranked N°1 artist in the local secondary school and was worshiped by his art teacher. At this time Geoffrey needed to focus attention on his artistic abilities. Despite his teacher's precious advices and determination, Geoffrey decided to snub a prestigious high school art class. A few years later, Geoffrey lost motivation and interest in classic school studies and was unable to break the cycle of academic failure to get his bachelor's degree. At 21 years old and with a very little experience in life, Geoffrey was stupid enough to give up on artistic dreams and left for the army where he learnt how to walk Without Rhythm and how to switch the brain off mode.
The Military service done, Geoffrey came back to civil life to experience unemployement, social pressure, factory jobs, a very badly broken wrist and other personal and professional disillusions. Five years of purgatory later Geoffrey found his old artistic identity in a rusty box. At 26 years old, He dug out some motivation and decided it was time to give a chance to his real self . At 27 years old, he started to practice digital art and new technologies on his own. He pursued a web designer and network administrator course during 7 months. He thought it would help him to strengthen his knowledge but soon realized that he was more capable than the lazy staff in charge.
After this welcome break and years of practice Geoffrey decided it was time to give up this so unexciting desk job to exclusively focus on his new career. He left zombie collegues and corrupted management behind him and never went back to this abnormal life. In January 2007 Geoffrey Rousselot Design was launched and opportunities started to flow. At 36 years old, Geoffrey is now an established freelance artist who is available for commissioned work. He is also writing his first ever book inspired by his childhood in Lyon suburbs. Les Chroniques du Bois Joli (tentative title) will also be illustrated by the artist. The script completion is planned for Winter 2010.
Geoffrey débute sa carrière artistique à l’age de 9 ans. A l’époque une certaine créativité est requise pour échapper à l’ennui des salles de cours et aux Mathématiques tout particulièrement. Geoffrey améliore son crayonné en s’entraînant sur ses cahiers, les bandes dessinées ayant une grande influence sur lui. A 10 ans Geoffrey remporte un concours de dessin organisé par son école. A 13 ans, il réalise sa première bande dessinée sur papier photocopié. Tout le voisinage est en effervescence et quelques professeurs sont assez généreux pour en acquérir une copie. Plus tard, Geoffrey collabore avec son ami Greg pour produire une bande dessinée de science fiction qu’ils nomment Future Cop. Malheureusement pour nos deux artistes, les planches sont égarées et perdues à jamais.
A 15 ans Geoffrey est élu meilleur élève en dessin du collège et son professeur d’arts plastiques le vénère (à moins que cela soit l'inverse). A l’époque Geoffrey a besoin de focaliser son attention sur son potentiel artistique. Mais malgré les précieux conseils et la détermination de son professeur il décide de snober les études au sein d'un prestigieux lycée ou son talent aurait pu être développé. Quelques années plus tard, Geoffrey perd toute motivation et intérêt pour les études classiques et est incapable de briser ce cycle de l’échec scolaire pour obtenir le baccalauréat. A 21 ans et avec une toute petite expérience de la vie, Geoffrey est assez stupide pour abandonner tous ses rêves artistiques et il quitte cette vie d’étudiant pour effectuer son service militaire durant lequel il apprend à marcher sans rythme, le cerveau désactivé.
Le service militaire effectué, Geoffrey revient vers la vie civile pour faire face au chômage, aux pressions sociales, il subit aussi les affres du travail en usine et il se blesse gravement au poignet. Il éprouve ensuite d’autres désillusions sur le plan personnel et professionnel... Cinq années de purgatoire plus tard, Geoffrey retrouve son identité artistique dans une boite toute rouillée. A 26 ans il déterre de la motivation et décide qu’il est temps de se donner une vraie chance. A 27 ans il commence à apprendre l’infographie et ses nouvelles techniques d’illustration, en autodidacte. Il poursuit une formation de web designer et d’administrateur réseau pendant 7 mois. Il pense alors que cette expérience l’aidera à consolider ses connaissances mais il réalise assez tôt qu’il était plus qualifié que les formateurs en place.
Après ce break bénéfique et des années de pratique, Geoffrey décide de laisser tomber un emploi peu passionnant. Il abandonne ses collègues zombifiés et les managers corrompus derrière lui et ne reviendra jamais vers cette vie anormale. En Janvier 2007, Geoffrey Rousselot Design est crée et les opportunités affluent. A 36 ans Geoffrey est devenu un artiste avéré, il écrit aussi son tout premier roman inspiré par son enfance dans la banlieue de Lyon. Les Chroniques du Bois Joli (titre temporaire) sera aussi illustré par l’artiste et l'écriture du livre sera finalisée pour l'hiver 2010.
